Richard has lived and worked in the UK, Australia, China and now calls New Zealand home. His working career has been focussed on the workplace and helping deliver solutions that enhance the effectiveness of the modern office.
The move to New Zealand brought a shift to the design focus in creating pieces for the residential market. With a passion for sustainability and respecting the natural materials used in the furniture making process, he seeks to bring inspiration from where the materials were sourced. This has been of particular relevance for Tréology where an abstract representation of the landscape has become a core design principle.
Recently, Richard has written books for young children that help to encourage reluctant readers. His understanding of this reluctance comes from his own experience with dyslexia and Irlens and uses his knowledge to help others.
Richard calls Christchurch home where he lives with his wife, two children, adopted greyhound and three cats. When relaxing, Richard can mostly be found running or cycling over the Port Hills and enjoying the natural scenery of New Zealand. It is a time where inspiration can be found for the next design project.
